Moisten the Soil Around Crabgrass Clumps
Thoroughly water the crabgrass patches and surrounding turf 15 to 30 minutes before pulling. Dry soil causes root breakage, leaving the plant capable of regenerating. The soil should feel soft and moist to a depth of at least two inches.

Lever and Extract the Root Crown
Gather the sprawling crabgrass stems into one hand to expose the central base. Insert the hand weeding tool at a 45-degree angle directly under the root crown. Push down on the handle to pry upward while pulling gently at the base of the plant to remove the entire root cluster.
