Establish Cross-Ventilation
Open two windows or exterior doors located on opposite sides of the room or house to create an active pressure differential. Secure the openings with window wedges or sash stops so they remain locked in place. Check that outdoor air is free from nearby exhaust fumes or smoke before opening.

Position Mechanical Airflow
Place the box or oscillating fan roughly 2 to 3 feet inside the exhaust window facing outward to pull stale indoor air outside, or position it facing inward from a shaded window to push fresh air into the room. Plug the unit into a wall outlet and set it to medium speed to establish an even draft.
