๐ Step-by-Step Guide (5 Steps)
Mark and Cut Fan Port on Cooler Lid
Place the Peltier cold-side fan against the cooler lid and trace its perimeter with a marker. Use a utility knife to cut along the traced outline cleanly through the styrofoam. Push the cutout block free to create a smooth rectangular mounting aperture.
- โข A clean rectangular cutout in the lid matching the dimensions of the cold-side heatsink assembly.
- โข Smooth vertical edges along the styrofoam cutout without jagged tears.
- โข Cutting the hole larger than the mounting flange of the heatsink assembly.
Mount Peltier Assembly into the Lid
Insert the Peltier assembly into the cut opening with the cold heatsink facing inward and the large dissipation heatsink facing outward. Apply a generous bead of hot glue along the outer seam where the plastic bracket meets the lid. Hold firmly in place for 60 seconds until the adhesive sets.
- โข Peltier unit seated flush against the lid with a continuous glue bead around the interface.
- โข Cold heatsink entirely inside the cooler lid cavity and large heatsink exposed on top.
- โข Mounting the unit upside down with the hot-side heatsink facing into the box.
Install Air Exhaust and Intake Ducts
Trace and cut a 2-inch circular hole on the front side panel of the cooler box for cold air output. Insert a short length of PVC pipe or plastic duct into the hole to direct outgoing airflow. Secure the duct joint from the inside and outside with hot glue.
- โข Duct pipe firmly seated through the side wall, protruding slightly outward.
- โข Airtight seal visible around the circumference of the duct pass-through.
- โข Placing the duct too close to the lid, which causes turbulent intake blockage.
Wire the W1209 Temperature Controller
Connect the 12V positive and ground leads from the power supply to the '+12V' and 'GND' terminals of the W1209 module. Wire the Peltier module and fans in parallel across the controller's relay output (K0 and K1) so power routes through the switch. Tighten all screw terminals securely and pull lightly on each lead to confirm engagement.
- โข All wire strands fully clamped inside terminal blocks with zero exposed stray copper.
- โข Red wires routed to +12V/K0 and black wires routed to GND/K1 correctly.
- โข Reversing +12V and GND terminals on the controller board.
Route Temperature Sensor and Test Operation
Feed the W1209 NTC thermal probe through a small pinhole in the cooler lid into the interior air chamber. Plug the 12V power supply into the wall and observe the LED display lighting up with current ambient temperature. Set the trigger threshold (P0 mode set to 'C' for cooling) to verify the relay clicks and the cooling unit activates.
