โ ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings
- โข Wear safety glasses when drilling into brick, stucco, or siding.
- โข Verify there are no hidden electrical conduits or doorbell wires behind the drilling target.
- โข Ensure firm footing if standing on an uneven doorstep or porch stairs.
๐ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Fully Charge the Doorbell
Plug the provided micro-USB cable into the port on the back of the doorbell and connect it to a USB power source. Wait until the circular LED light on the front turns solid blue, indicating a full charge. Disconnect the charging cable before proceeding to installation.
- โข The front circular LED ring glows solid blue with no blinking sections.
- โข The charging cable is detached from the rear port.
- โข Mounting the doorbell while it is only partially charged.
- โข Leaving the charging cable plugged in while attempting to mount.
Pair Device in the Ring App
Open the Ring app on your mobile device and select 'Set Up a Device'. Scan the QR code located on the back of the Ring unit or on the quick start guide, then follow the in-app prompts to connect it to your home Wi-Fi network.
- โข Doorbell front light spins blue then flashes white to confirm setup.
- โข Live video feed appears on the smartphone screen.
- โข Mounting the bracket to the wall before scanning the QR code on the back.
- โข Attempting Wi-Fi setup too far from the router before verifying signal strength at the door.
Position and Level the Mounting Bracket
Snap the mini level into the small slot on the front of the mounting bracket. Place the bracket against the door frame or exterior wall approximately 48 inches (1.2 meters) off the ground. Adjust the bracket until the bubble is centered between the two indicator lines, then mark the four corner screw holes with a pencil.
- โข Mini level bubble is centered precisely between the black guidelines.
- โข Four distinct pencil dots are visible on the mounting surface through the bracket holes.
- โข Mounting the doorbell too high (eye level), which reduces motion detection accuracy.
- โข Marking holes while the bracket is tilted.
Drill Pilot Holes and Insert Anchors
If mounting on brick, concrete, or stucco, use the included drill bit to drill holes at the pencil marks and push the plastic anchors flush into the holes. If mounting on wood or smooth siding, skip the plastic anchors and drill small pilot holes with a standard wood drill bit.
- โข Four clean holes drilled into the surface.
- โข Plastic anchors sit completely flush with the exterior wall surface (if on masonry/stucco).
- โข Using plastic wall anchors on solid wood surfaces.
- โข Drilling holes too large, causing anchors to spin loosely.
Secure the Mounting Bracket
Remove the mini level from the bracket by gently pushing it out of its slot. Line up the mounting bracket holes with your drilled holes or inserted anchors, and drive the four medium mounting screws in securely using the Phillips end of the screwdriver tool.
- โข Mini level has been removed from the bracket.
- โข Four screws are driven tight, holding the bracket flat and motionless against the wall.
- โข Leaving the mini level inside the bracket, which prevents the doorbell unit from clicking into place.
- โข Over-tightening screws and warping the plastic bracket.
Attach Doorbell and Fasten Security Screws
Hook the top of the Ring Doorbell onto the top of the mounting bracket, then push the bottom in firmly until it clicks flat. Insert the two small star-shaped security screws into the threaded holes on the bottom edge of the unit, and tighten them using the star end of the orange screwdriver tool.
- โข Ring Doorbell sits flush against the bracket with no gaps around the edges.
- โข Two star security screws are fully countersunk into the bottom rim of the faceplate.
- โข Using the longer mounting screws in the security screw holes at the bottom, which can puncture the battery.
- โข Stripping the star security screw by using a Phillips driver bit.
