📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Align and Tape the Template
Fold the paper mounting template along the hinge-edge crease indicated for your door swing direction. Tape the template flat across the upper corner of the door and frame header, ensuring horizontal alignment with a level.
- • Paper template lies completely flat across the door and header seam without bubbling.
- • Reference line on template aligns flush with the hinge edge of the door frame.
- • Using the push-side template layout on a pull-side installation.
Punch and Drill Pilot Holes
Mark all four closer body hole centers and two arm shoe hole centers with a center punch or screw tip. Remove the template and drill straight pilot holes into the marked locations using the bit size specified in your kit.
- • Four clean pilot holes visible on the door face.
- • Two clean pilot holes visible on the door frame header.
- • Drilling all the way through the door leaf.
Mount Closer Body to Door
Position the main closer body over the four drilled holes, making sure the speed regulating valves face the hinge side. Hand-drive the four mounting screws using a Phillips screwdriver until the body sits firmly flush against the door.
- • Closer body firmly anchored with no play or gap between housing and door surface.
- • Speed adjustment screw valves point toward the door hinges.
- • Mounting the closer upside down with adjustment valves pointing away from hinges.
Install Arm Shoe to Frame Header
Separate the forearm rod from the main arm by disconnecting the elbow linkage. Fasten the forearm mounting shoe to the two pilot holes in the frame header using the supplied machine or wood screws.
- • Forearm shoe securely attached flat to the underside or face of the frame header.
- • Forearm dangles freely downward directly above the closer body.
- • Mounting the shoe backwards, preventing full arm articulation.
Attach Main Arm and Connect Linkage
Press the main arm onto the closer's bottom or top pinion shaft and secure with the center pinion bolt. Rotate the main arm slightly to preload spring tension, adjust the threaded forearm length, and join the two arms at the elbow with the pivot screw.
- • Main arm is locked onto the pinion spline with center screw tight.
- • Forearm sits at a 90-degree right angle to the door frame when the door is fully shut.
- • Pinion cap snapped into place over the exposed shaft.
- • Connecting the arms with no preload, leaving the door slightly ajar when closed.
Adjust Sweep and Latch Speed Valves
Open the door and allow it to close to test the speed. Use a small flathead screwdriver to turn Valve 1 (sweep speed: 90° down to 10°) and Valve 2 (latch speed: last 10° to latch), turning clockwise to slow down and counter-clockwise to speed up.
- • Door closes smoothly in approximately 5 to 7 seconds without slamming.
- • Door clicks firmly into the latch plate during the final 10 degrees of travel.
- • Backing adjustment screws out too far, causing hydraulic fluid to spray out.
