Measure, Cut, and Dry-Fit Cement Boards
Measure wall stud bays and cut backer boards to size by scoring the fiberglass mesh with a scoring tool along a straightedge, snapping the board along the score line, and slicing the back mesh. Allow a 1/4-inch gap at the shower pan lip and a 1/8-inch gap between adjacent panel edges. Dry-fit each piece against the studs to confirm plumbing cutouts and edge alignments before fastening.

Fasten Cement Board to Framing

Sink screw heads flush with the panel surface without over-driving through the outer mesh face. Confirm walls are flat and true using a 4-foot level spanning across panel seams.

Roll the membrane across all flat wall areas with a 3/8-inch nap roller to create a continuous, even base coat.

Ensure total dried thickness forms an opaque, continuous rubberized membrane ready for tile installation.
