โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)

1

Set Up and Lock the Drywall Lift

Wheel the panel lift directly below the ceiling bay where the drywall will be installed. Lock all caster brakes to prevent the base from rolling. Lower the telescoping cradle to its lowest loading height and tilt the loading frame downward toward you until the support hooks catch the angled stop.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข All three caster foot-locks pressed firmly downward against the floor.
  • โ€ข Cradle tilted at approximately 45 to 60 degrees with lower retaining hooks facing up.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Leaving caster wheels unlocked while loading, causing the lift to kick backward.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Keep fingers clear of telescoping mast sections and sliding frame channels.
2

Load the Drywall Sheet onto the Cradle

Carry the drywall sheet with the finished (cream-colored) face pointing down toward the floor. Rest the bottom long edge of the panel into the bottom metal support hooks of the cradle. Center the panel horizontally across the frame so weight is balanced evenly across both outrigger arms.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Drywall panel resting evenly across both support hooks.
  • โ€ข Equal overhang of drywall visible on both left and right outriggers.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Loading the board face-up, putting the paper backing against the finished ceiling side.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Lift with your legs, keeping the board tight against your body to prevent lower back strain.
3

Level the Cradle and Hoist Overhead

Pivot the tilted cradle upward until it locks into the completely horizontal ceiling position. Turn the cable winch clockwise to hoist the drywall panel upward. Crank smoothly until the panel is roughly 1 to 2 inches below the ceiling joists.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Cradle horizontal latch fully engaged with a visible lock pin.
  • โ€ข Drywall hovering 1-2 inches beneath the wooden joists.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Cranking all the way tight against the ceiling before verifying edge alignment with framing.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Never stand directly beneath the loaded panel lift while cranking the winch.
4

Align Seams and Press Tight to Joists

Unlock the base casters briefly to roll the lift into its final alignment, ensuring the short edge lands centered on a ceiling joist. Lock the wheels again. Crank the lift winch tight until the drywall panel presses flush against the joists without crushing the gypsum core.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข End of the sheet centered on the 1-1/2 inch width of a joist (leaving 3/4 inch for the next board).
  • โ€ข Zero visible light or gap between the top surface of the drywall and joist bottoms.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Over-cranking the winch cable, which can snap the drywall core down the middle.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Ensure wheels are re-locked before climbing any stepladder to fasten.
5

Fasten Panel to Ceiling Joists

Drive 1-1/4 inch drywall screws into each joist crossing, spacing screws 12 inches apart across the field of the panel and 7 to 8 inches apart along butt edges. Start fastening from the center of the sheet and work outward toward the edges to eliminate trapped air pockets. Keep screws at least 3/8-inch in from all board edges.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Screw heads slightly recessed below the paper surface forming a shallow dimple without tearing the face paper.
  • โ€ข Screws driven straight at 90-degree angles to the ceiling surface.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Over-driving screws through the paper, destroying the holding strength.
  • โ€ข Under-driving screws so the head protrudes above the drywall plane.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Keep your balance centered on the ladder; never overreach past the side rails while driving ceiling screws.
6

Lower the Lift and Clear for Next Sheet

Confirm all perimeter and field screws are fully driven. Hold the winch crank firmly, disengage the ratchet safety catch, and crank counterclockwise to lower the lift arms smoothly away from the ceiling. Wheel the lift back to the staging area for the next board.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Lift cradle lowered to minimum height with arms clear of the fastened ceiling sheet.
  • โ€ข Installed ceiling drywall remains flat, level, and securely fastened without sagging.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Letting go of the winch handle when disengaging the brake, causing the handle to free-spin dangerously.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Maintain a firm grip on the winch handle during descent until all tension is released.
