📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Measure Opening and Cut Track to Size
Measure the top width of the finished door frame opening from jamb to jamb. Subtract 1/8 inch for clearance, mark the metal top track, and cut it squarely with a hacksaw. File down any metal burrs left on the cut edge.
- • A cleanly cut metal track laid flat across the top jamb with roughly 1/16 inch gap on each side.
- • Track ends are free of jagged burrs or bending.
- • Cutting track without accounting for the jamb thickness or cutting it too short.
Mount the Top Track
Position the top track on the ceiling header, recessed approximately 3/4 inch from the front edge of the jamb so doors sit flush when closed. Drive the provided screws through the pre-drilled track holes into the header frame, keeping screws snug but not distorting the channel.
- • Metal track securely fastened to the header, running straight and parallel to the jamb front edges.
- • Screw heads are flush inside the track so the slide guide can travel unobstructed.
- • Over-tightening screws which crimps the track sides inward and pinches the rollers.
Install the Lower Pivot Bracket
Position the lower floor/jamb bracket at the base of the side jamb on the pivot side. Align the bracket directly plumb beneath the track's top pivot socket, using a torpedo level or plumb bob. Fasten the bracket with screws driven into both the jamb and the floor.
- • L-shaped bracket resting flat on the floor and snug against the jamb face.
- • Lower bracket socket aligns directly vertical with the top track pivot socket.
- • Mounting the lower bracket out of plumb with the top track socket, causing doors to bind.
Insert Door Panel Pivot Hardware
Tap the top pivot pin, top roller guide, and bottom threaded pivot pin into their pre-drilled holes along the top and bottom edges of the door panels using a mallet or scrap wood block. Adjust the bottom threaded pivot pin out about 1/2 inch to provide floor clearance.
- • Pivot pins fully seated flush into their pre-drilled boreholes in the wood.
- • Bottom threaded pin extends approximately 1/2 inch from the bottom door edge.
- • Hammering bare metal pins directly and damaging the spring mechanism or plastic collars.
Hang the Door Panels in the Track
Angle the folded bifold door and push the spring-loaded top pivot pin into the top track socket. Depress the spring-loaded guide wheel and slide it into the track channel. Finally, lift the door slightly and drop the bottom pivot pin into the lower jamb bracket socket.
- • Door suspended vertically with top guide sliding freely in the track.
- • Bottom pivot pin securely resting in the teeth/cup of the floor bracket.
- • Failing to fully seat the top spring pin before releasing the door, allowing it to fall.
Adjust Alignment and Install Hardware
Loosen the set screw in the top track socket and slide it horizontally until the door has an even 1/4-inch reveal along the side jamb. Rotate the bottom threaded pin clockwise or counterclockwise to raise or lower the door until it is level. Measure 36 inches up on the center panel fold and screw in the door pull handle.
- • Consistent vertical gap of roughly 1/4 inch along both side jambs and across the center seam.
- • Door folds and opens smoothly without scraping the floor or binding against the jamb.
- • Door pull securely mounted centered on the middle panel joint.
- • Mounting door pulls on the wrong panel half, making it difficult to pull the door outward.
