📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Excavate Soil and Clear Vegetation
Dig out existing dirt and weeds to a depth of 3 to 4 inches below surrounding hardscapes or borders. Remove all tree roots, rocks, and loose organic debris. Rake the bare soil roughly level and tamp it down to establish a firm foundation.

Lay Weed Barrier and Spread Sub-Base
Roll out the geotextile weed fabric across the entire dirt base, overlapping adjacent seams by 6 inches, and pin it lightly with staples. Shovel 2.5 to 3 inches of crushed aggregate or decomposed granite evenly across the fabric. Use a landscaping rake to smooth the rock into a uniform, level layer.

Moisten and Compact the Sub-Base
Wet the entire gravel surface with a garden hose nozzle until evenly damp but not washed out. Run the plate compactor or strike down firmly with the hand tamper across the entire surface in overlapping rows. Continue until the base is rock-hard and leaves no footprints when walked on.

Ensure the grass blade grain on all rolls points in the same direction, preferably facing toward the primary viewing area (such as the patio or house). Let the turf rest in the sun for 30 to 60 minutes to relax packaging wrinkles.

Trim Perimeter Edges and Seam Joints
Fold back the turf edges and use a sharp utility knife to cut through the backing from the backside, cutting between stitch rows rather than through fibers. For seams, align the two pieces with a 1/8-inch gap, place seam tape underneath, apply adhesive, and press both edges firmly down. Trim the perimeter flush against your border edging.

Brush the lawn vigorously against the grain with a stiff-bristle broom to push infill deep into the thatch and stand the grass blades upright.
