📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Square and Cut Timbers to Length
Measure and cut your dimensional posts (4x4 or 6x6) to final dimensions using a miter saw. Cut four vertical corner uprights to matching lengths (typically 8 to 10 feet) and four horizontal top beams. Test-fit timber ends into the steel bracket sleeves to ensure dry lumber slides fully home into the cups.
- • All cut lumber ends are clean, square 90-degree cuts with no splintering.
- • Timbers slide smoothly into the steel bracket sleeves without binding.
- • Using wet, swollen lumber that gets jammed halfway inside the steel bracket sleeve.
- • Cutting posts to uneven lengths, resulting in a tilted top frame.
Assemble the Top Roof Frame on the Ground
Lay out the four horizontal top beams on a flat, level surface in a rectangle or square. Slide the four Toja Grid TRIO corner brackets onto the beam corners until the wood bottoms out inside each sleeve. Confirm squareness by measuring diagonally corner-to-corner; adjust until both diagonal measurements match exactly.

Fasten Top Brackets with Structural Screws
Drive the supplied structural wood screws through every pre-punched hole in the corner bracket sleeves into the horizontal beams. Hold the beam firmly seated against the inner bracket stop while driving screws to prevent push-out. Repeat for all top corner sleeves, keeping vertical receiver slots empty for the upright posts.

Insert Upright Posts and Raise Structure
With a helper on each side, lift one side of the assembled top frame and insert two vertical posts into the bottom receivers of the corner brackets. Drive screws into the post receivers. Lift the opposite side onto the remaining two vertical posts, secure the top joints, and carefully bring the entire pergola to vertical resting position.

Mark, drill, and install heavy-duty concrete wedge anchors into the patio slab (or structural timber screws into deck framing), then secure the base sleeves to the wood posts.
