โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (5 Steps)

1

Measure and Cut Drywall to Framing Dimensions

Measure the arc length of the curved wall with a flexible tape measure. Transfer dimensions onto the face side of the drywall sheet using a T-square and score through the top paper with a utility knife. Snap the sheet along the cut line and slice the backing paper to release the panel.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Drywall panel is sized to fit the curve dimensions with clean, straight edges.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Cutting the board with the grain running opposite to the bend; length should run perpendicular to the curve for maximum flex.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Keep non-dominant hand well clear of the utility knife blade path.
2

Saturate the Backing Paper with Water

Lay the drywall panel face down on a flat, clean surface or sawhorses. Use a pump sprayer or wet paint roller to apply an even, liberal coat of warm water across the entire back paper surface. Ensure the moisture reaches all edges without puddling excessively on the floor.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Backing paper changes to a uniformly darker, damp color with no dry gray patches.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Applying water to the front finished face instead of the back first.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Wipe floor areas immediately if runoff creates a slippery work area.
3

Allow Dwell Time and Dampen the Face Paper

Wait 10 to 15 minutes for the water to soak through the paper into the gypsum core. Flip the board carefully and apply a light mist of water to the front face paper. Let both sides sit for an additional 5 minutes until the board feels cool, heavy, and visibly pliable.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Board sags slightly under its own weight when lifted from the ends.
  • โ€ข Both paper faces are damp to the touch but not tearing or turning to slurry.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Rushing the soak time, which causes the brittle core to snap under pressure.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Support the board with two hands to avoid breaking the softened core during flipping.
4

Pre-Flex the Sheet Against the Curved Framing

Position the damp sheet against the curved studs starting at one anchor end. Slowly push the panel into the contour of the framing with flat, open hands, letting the curve form progressively stud by stud. Do not force sharp bends in a single spot.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Drywall hugs the curve of the framing smoothly without creasing or cracking.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Applying point pressure with fingertips instead of dispersing force with palms.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Keep fingers out from between the drywall and framing studs to prevent pinch injuries.
5

Fasten Progressively Along the Arc

Drive drywall screws into the first stud at 8-inch vertical intervals to lock the end. Work your way sequentially across the arc, pressing the board tight to each subsequent stud before driving screws. Set screw heads just below the paper surface without breaking through the wet paper.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Screws driven flush or slightly dimpled along every stud without ripping the damp paper.
  • โ€ข Drywall is fully seated against all curved framing members with zero gaps.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Fastening both outer edges before fastening the center, which causes buckling in the middle.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Ensure firm footing while driving screws to maintain constant forward pressure.
